Rent pressure zones are actually preventing monthly rents from falling. That's the claim from the author of the latest Daft report, which shows rent across the country rose by over 10 per cent last year, while in Dublin the increase was only 2.6 per cent. Rents across the Shannonside region experienced some of the largest increases nationally.
Rents in Roscommon were up 15.2%, Longford was up 14.8%, and Leitrim was up 13%. The Administrative Area of Westmeath County Council was recently designated as a rent pressure zone at the end of last year. Economist and author of the Daft report Ronan Lyons says the pressure zones have been completely ineffective.
