Rents across the Shannonside region increased by an average of 15% between 2022 and 2023.
According to the latest Residential Tenancies Board report, Roscommon experienced the largest increase locally in Q3 of last year.
The RTB report focuses on the percentage changes in average rent prices for new and existing tenancies between quarter 3 of 2022 and last year. According to the release, Roscommon had the largest increase in rents in those 12 months at 19.3% with the average rent for new tenancies standing at €986. Rents for existing tenancies in Roscommon also increased by 9.5% to an average price of €815. In Longford, the average rent price for new tenants increased by 14.9% to €996, whilst existing tenancies went up by 10.1% to €812. Leitrim had the lowest rent price for existing tenancies at €698, an increase of 7.4% on 2022, while the average price of a new tenancy in the county increased by 9.6% to €853. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Sinn Fein Housing Spokesperson Eoin O Broin says measures need to be taken to halt the rising rents.
