Water supply is expected to be restored to homes and businesses across Leitrim later this evening.
Hundreds of properties in the south of the county were impacted by a major burst in the Kilnagross area earlier today.
Ballinamore, Fenagh, Mohill, Carrigallen, Gortlettragh, Newtowngore and surrounding areas were all affected by the outage.
Irish water confirmed crews finished repairs at 4pm this evening and it's expected water will return to the taps 2 to 3 hours after this time.
Councillor Enda Stenson says the timing of the burst is not ideal with water particularly needed on farms during hot weather.
''Keshcarrigan, Gortlettragh, Eslin and other areas are without water on the hottest day of the year, not through anybody's fault. Farmers where you have cattle and cows it's just an absolute disaster on a day like this.''
