The latest quarterly Locked Out report by the Simon charity shows no affordable rental properties for HAP users in County Leitrim.
The research was carried out across 16 areas nationwide and found only 39 properties that were affordable to someone reliant on a Housing Assistance Payment
Just one of these homes was located in Athlone.
The study highlights a growing concern for rural Ireland with no single or family properties available to rent in County Leitrim.
Wayne Stanley, Head of Policy with Simon says this latest report is very worrying and believes the Government must ensure more houses become available for HAP tenants.
''We need initiatives within Housing for All that could be ramped up, such as repair and lease, buy and renew and then local authorities can go out and work with the owners of these properties, pay them a rent or give them a loan to help them bring the property up to spec and then rent it out to a family in need or a permanent individual in need. Those are the kind of silver bullets that we need.''
