Businesses across the Shannonside Northern Sound region have spent over 250 million euro in energy costs.
According to a report compiled by Brosnan Facility Management, Longford businesses have significantly reduced their energy spend by 20 million euro.
The Brosnan report has examined the latest CSO figures in order to determine how much each counties' businesses are spending on energy costs.
The data available analysed each county's expenditure as of 2021.
According to its latest findings, businesses in Cavan are shown to have the highest energy expenditure in the region at 99 million euro, an increase of 27.5% since 2015.
Westmeath follows with an energy spend worth 49 million euro, while Monaghan's spend amounts to 38 million euro as of 2021.
The data shows that energy businesses in Roscommon have spent 26 million euro.
Meanwhile, businesses in Longford have demonstrated the most significant decrease in energy expenditure in the country at 25 million euro, a drop of 57% since 2015.
Leitrim is the county with the lowest energy spend in the country, at only 15 million euro.
Overall, the total expenditure across the region amounts to 252 million euro, while nationally, Irish businesses are spending an average of 329 million euro per year per county on energy costs.
