The residential vacancy rate in the Shannonside region remains above the national average.
According to the latest Geodirectory report, Leitrim is the county with the highest percentage of vacant residential units nationally
The GeoDirectory residential buildings report for Quarter 2 of this year provides a breakdown of the percentage of residential units that were unoccupied up to last month.
Despite the national average dropping to 3.9%, all counties in the Shannonside region remain considerably above this figure.
Leitrim has the highest vacancy rate in the country at 12.2%, followed by Roscommon at 10.6%.
These were the only 2 counties above a 10% vacancy rate in the country.
While Longford's rate of vacant units was calculated at 8%.
The report also shows that with the 3 counties having some of the highest vacancy rates in the country, property prices are some of the lowest.
The average cost of a home in Longford in the 12 months up to May this year was €174,436, the lowest nationally.
This is followed by Leitrim at €178,571 and Roscommon at €181,402, with all 3 counties in the Shannonside region the only ones to be below the €200,000 mark.
