Residents in the Ardsallagh area of Roscommon town say a new footpath in the area will greatly improve the safety of pedestrians.

Roscommon County Council received an allocation of 110,000 euro this week for a new footpath and cycle track for the road linking the Golf Club to the Athlone road.

It's the only are on one of the towns healthy heart routes that has no dedicated footpath.

As well as new pathways the funding will also include provision of public lighting, surface water drainage

Local resident John Donohoe says it's a very positive development.
