A retired teacher based in the Shannonside region has defended teachers taking career breaks.
It comes as the government is considering restrictions on career breaks for teachers.
Eamon is a retired teacher based in the region who took a four year leave of absence.
He says teachers come back from career breaks as better teachers, refreshed and enthusiastic.
"I am one of those who took time out. I took four years leave of absence to work in Lesotho under the Ireland- Lesotho Bilateral Aid Programme. I do know when I came back I was full of enthusiasm all over again. When I went to Africa I had already been teaching for 12-15 years, and I suppose it was getting a bit stale".
