Councillors in south Leitrim are to seek engagement with the Leitrim Development Company and its Active Age Officer to ascertain how successful the move of day services from Mohill to Ballinamore has been.
The December meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon M.D heard that there was ongoing dissatisfaction with the closure of the day unit at Arus Carolan and the transfer of several patients to the primary care centre several kilometres away in Ballinamore.
The HSE has previously stated that the Mohill day centre closed due to HIQA non-compliance and Infection Prevention Control (IPC) guidance.
Finola Armstorng McGuire suggested that the Council seek a meeting with Leitrim development company, and its Active age officer, to discuss how the change is proceeding. for the elderly people who used the service in Mohill and are now being accommodated in Ballinamore.
Councillor Thomas Mulligan said he would not rest until services were restored in Mohill and the suggestion that unavailability of showers in the Mohill building was a key reason for its closure "did not stand up" as no users of the service in Ballinamore to his knowledge were using showers at present.
