The owner of a popular gastro pub in Athlone says rising food costs are the main reason behind his decision to close the business.
PJ Kelly who operated the family run 'Murphy's Law' pub and restaurant for the past decade announced the closure in a Facebook post last Sunday.
The business employed 20 staff and PJ Kelly says the decision wasn't one his family made lightly.
He says that the food business in the pub had fallen by as much as 25% in the aftermath of Covid and that issue coupled with spiraling costs for supplies had made the business unsustainable.
Speaking on the Let's Talk show today he says recruitment of staff has also been an issue in recent months.
