Longford-Westmeath TD Robert Troy has been selected as a Fianna Fáil candidate for the next general election.
This was confirmed at a selection convention in the Bloomfield House Hotel in Mullingar tonight.
The convention, for the Westmeath side of the constituency, was chaired by Junior Transport Minister James Lawless.
Athlone councillor Aengus O'Rourke was also nominated to contest the convention, but he withdrew after Fianna Fáil headquarters opted to select only one candidate in Westmeath.
That meant Troy, who has been a TD since 2011, was selected unopposed.
His constituency colleague, Deputy Joe Flaherty, from Longford, will be confirmed as a candidate in the coming weeks.
He is the only person still in the running on the Longford side of the constituency.
