Minister for Public Expenditure Paschal Donohoe confirmed last week the Government has no plans to reduce the current rate of 13.5 per cent to 9 per cent.

There are calls locally to reduce the VAT rate in the hospitality sector.

The Restaurants Association of Ireland believes the current VAT rate is leading to businesses closing in the sector.

Rooskey businesswoman Eimear Reynolds was forced to close her coffee shop in Longford town earlier this year due to rising costs.

Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Eimear says dropping the VAT rate would keep people in jobs:
