A Roscommon resident is calling on Government to ensure a future for young people in rural Ireland.
Niamh Farrell who is chair of the Macra Rural Youth committee says despite the organisation's engagement with Ministers, they have failed to act on proposals.
A 'Steps for Our Future' march will see members walk from Athy to Leinster House next Tuesday and Wednesday and the local woman is encouraging all youth to join.
Key issues being highlighted by the group include access to affordable housing, cumbersome planning guidelines, recognition of farm succession schemes and quotas on farm grant aid.
Speaking to Shannonside FM Niamh says the youth of rural Ireland must be supported.
'We've consulted and asked for consultation on numerous occasions.
Anytime a submission opens from Government we put a submission in.
We get no feed back from them or we're not brought to the table to discuss it.
At this stage, having put in plenty of submissions and asked for consultations, we'll leave Athy on Tuesday evening at a quarter past 7 and we'll hopefully arrive on Wednesday the 26th at 1 o'clock at Government building.'
Tommy Stenson has been speaking to Niamh Farrell as well as Roscommon famer Kelsey Daly.
