The kitchen service area in a Strokestown bar was closed last month as it posed a danger to public health according to the Food Safety Authority.
Inspectors found two major issues of concern at the Hayloft Bar on Bridge Street in the town with the closure order lifted after ten days.
The closure order on the kitchen service area was executed on the 11th of December last by inspectors who claimed they observed issues which posed a 'grave and immediate danger to public health at the premises.
Inspectors noted that the food businesses operating out of the food room did not have the necessary facilities to ensure that food produced is protected against contamination according to the FSAI report.
Inspectors also claimed that there was no running hot or cold water at the staff toilet or the sinks in the food room for the cleaning of food, crockery, and cutlery.
The Closure Order issued by the HSE for breaches of food safety legislation, pursuant to the FSAI Act, 1998 was subsequently lifted on December 21st.
There was a 67 percent decrease in the number of business enforcement orders handed out by the Food Safety Authority in 2020 compared with the previous year.
In 2019 there were 125 orders compared with just 42 last year.
The FSAI say the fall in the figures is likely due to the Covid-19 restrictions which forced many businesses to close.
