A HIQA report has praised the kind and caring nature of the staff at a Roscommon based nursing home.
An unannounced inspection was carried out at Oakwood Private Nursing Home in June of this year.
The centre is located on the Athlone Road in Roscommon and provides long and short-term care for 56 adults including people with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or dementia. At the time of the inspection, there were 55 residents present, and feedback from them was highly positive. The inspector noted interactions between the residents and staff were kind and courteous, with the report highlighting the respect shown to those who displayed responsive behaviours associated with Alzheimer's or Dementia. Communal areas were described as being tastefully decorated with a welcoming atmosphere and the enclosed garden space as spacious and comfortable. Residents' rooms were also spacious and well-maintained and the centre had, at the time, just received a new delivery of storage cupboards, adding to residents' storage space. It was also clear to the inspector that visitors were welcomed to the centre.
Overall, the Roscommon based home was found to be compliant or substantially compliant in all areas of inspection
