A west Roscommon basket maker is launching a new sustainable eco-friendly willow coffin.
Kate Burrows from Westcountry Willow moved from Devon to Ballinlough four years ago continuing on with her craft here in Ireland.
She has planted willows close to her home and now has a supply of rods.
Kate says people have embraced the craft and there has been demand for a willow coffin so much so she has now decided to make some.
The Roscommon crafter has also been shortlisted in the Irish business design challenge with public voting now open.
Speaking on Let's Talk earlier Kate said people are looking for alternatives to the traditional coffin.
"People are wanting a more sustainable, more eco-friendly option. A lot of the coffins that are traditionally used are covered in varnishes while our coffins are 100% Irish willow and there's nothing nasty going into the soil. We're going to be lining them with organic linen. It won't be causing any harm to the environment and that's an important thing for a lot of people now".
