A Roscommon carers representative says family carers the length and breadth of the country have been left hugely disappointed by today's announcement regarding a pandemic reward for frontline workers.
Frontline health and ambulance workers who were exposed to Covid-19 are to be given a €1,000 euro tax free bonus.
It won't be restricted to clinical staff and will apply to the likes of porters and attendants in hospitals.
Nursing students, defence forces staff seconded to the HSE and private staff in hospices and nursing homes will also qualify for the payment.
Around 100,000 people will benefit at a cost to the state in the region of 100 million euro.
Bernie Dowling says carers took on even more responsibilities during the pandemic and isolated with their loved ones to prevent the spread of the disease.
She said there's no doubt but that carers feel they are being taken for granted yet again by the government.
