Clann na nGael produced an almighty come back to secure a 1-14 draw with St. Brigids in Dr Hyde Park in the opening game of the Hudson Bay Hotel Roscommon senior championship.

St. Brigids were in control early on and led 1-8 to five points at half-time partly with thanks to a goal from Brian Stack.

However Clann Na nGael response after the opening water break when they had just two points on the board continued, a later Ciaran Lennon goal made it 1-13 to 1-14.

Cathal Shine’s injury time point saw the sides share the spoils at 1-14 apiece.

Elphin opened their campaign with a two point win over Strokestown 1-9 to 10 points. Austen Kielty’s goal two minutes into the second half helping steer Elphin to victory.

Western Gaels scored a surprised 10 points to seven win over Roscommon Gaels. The game was tied at three points at the first water break.

Western Gaels led six points to four at the break as they used the wind in the second half, Roscommon Gaels struggling into a deceptive wind.

Four points from Western Gaels Finbarr Gregg which secured a deserved opening day win.

Elsewhere in group B St. Croans grabbed a two point win over Fuerty by eight points to six in a tight end to end encounter.

With the game locked at six points each two late points by Cathal Connelly and Brendan Pacey sealed the two point win for Croans.

In Group C Michael Glavey’s got their campaign off to a winning start with a 2-11 to 1-6 victory over Tulsk in Peader Early Park.

Glavey’s started well with three early points before Tadgh O’Rourke found the Glavey’s net to level the score before Glavey’s cameback to lead at half-time seven points to 1-2.

The game changed with two Glavey’s goals in the space of 30 seconds from Andy Glennon followed by Dillan Ruane which swung the game as Glavey’s won out 2-11 to 1-7.
