Roscommon County Council hasn't been able to find a contractor to carry out a flood relief scheme near Athlone.
In 2021, the council received an offer of €350,000 from the Office of Public Works to defend flooding in Bogganfin. which borders Westmeath.
The area of land stretches both sides of the railway line to the river Shannon to the north and into open countryside to the south.
It also goes from Ganly's on the N61 Roscommon Road to just short of the Elm Close Housing Estate.
But, in a report to be presented to councillors at their monthly meeting today, Roscommon County Council says it has been unable to appoint a consultant to carry out the project.
This follows a tendering process.
It comes as the council is currently looking for contractors to carry out works on a temporary flood-relief scheme around Lough Funshinagh, which is at the planning stage.
The council says the turlough's water levels are at record levels for this time of the year - 0.7 metres higher than this time last year.
Three roads in the area remain closed due to flooding and pumping was needed at Ballagh, Rahara, throughout the summer - only ending earlier this month.
