It takes local county councils over 36 weeks on average to see their social housing units re-occupied once available.
That's according to a new Local Authority Performance Indicator Report covering last year.
The reports covers the timeline in seeing local authority housing re-tenanted once the previous tenant leaves the property.
The process can involve repairs, upgrades or renovations to the property before it is ready for the next tenant.
Monaghan County Council has the fastest turnaround time in the country with properties ready for habitation within 11 weeks at an average cost of close to €11,000 per property.
In the Shannonside Region, the local authority with the quickest re-tenanting process is Roscommon, where social housing units are ready within 22 weeks costing an average of €11,000 per home.
It takes almost 36 and a half weeks and over €11,200 on average in Leitrim for the housing units to be made ready once vacated.
In Longford, the local authority spends an average of €20,000 on repairs and refurbishment, with a property turnaround time of almost 49 weeks.
The longest timeframe in the region is in Cavan where new tenants must wait over a year for vacated properties to come back into the housing pool at over €16,000 each on average.
