Roscommon County Council paid out over €355,000 last year to seven people who got injured on footpaths.
The total amount settled by the local authority last year over insurance claims increased by almost a third last year.
According to freedom of information files, the council settled 70 insurance claims in 2022 - amounting to €664,809.
This increased significantly last year, when 130 claims totalling €870,448 were finalised.
Many claims relate to roads, potholes, trips and slips on footpaths, and collisions.
Notably, last year the council settled seven claims related to footpath injuries, at a total cost of €355,143 - an average of almost €51,000 per claim.
There were 71 public liability settlements in 2023, at a cost of almost €474,000.
A total of 17 motor claims were finalised, at a total cost of almost €37,000.
A total of 35 pothole motor damage claims were settled for almost €5,000.
Claims again local authorities are paid by their insurers, Irish Public Bodies.
