A total of €66,000 worth of allowances for Roscommon councillors have been approved for next year.
At the same meeting, it was controversially agreed to increase commercial rates by 5 per cent in 2025.
These annual allowances were signed off at the council's budget meeting last Wednesday.
They were proposed by the coalition that controls the council, in line with the Local Government Act, and unanimously agreed.
They include an allowance of €20,000 for the cathaoirleach of the local authority, and €4,000 for the leas-cathaoirleach.
It was stated the money would cover "reasonable expenses incurred in respect of attendance at functions".
Allowances of €6,000 were approved for the cathaoirligh of Roscommon, Boyle and Athlone municipal districts.
Allowances of €6,000 were also given the go-ahead for the chairpersons of the four strategic policy committees.
