Roscommon council told to buy 37 vacant houses in Ballaghaderreen

Roscommon County Council is being urged to buy 37 vacant houses in a Ballaghaderreen housing estate.

Many of the homes in Gleann Ard are derelict and there is widespread illegal dumping.

There are a total of 64 homes in the housing development - meaning over half are empty.

Ballaghaderreen's population has increased by 56 per cent over the past eight years, leading to a housing crisis.

Local elections candidate Saj Hussain, who lives in Gleann Ard, is calling for the council to take action.
