A Roscommon Councillor is calling for improvement works at four public carparks in the town.
Kathleen Shanagher says while Roscommon is fortunate to have these spaces, motorists must be encouraged to park off street.
She believes additional lighting as well as the re-lining of spaces must be carried at the council owned car parks.
At a meeting of Roscommon M.D. this week the Independent Councillor stated car owners need to feel safe parking in these areas particularly at night.
''Lighting is so important, people need to feel safe if they are parking their cars at nighttime in particular, of course mark the lines out too, so when people are parking they're told to stay between the lines and make it safe for people parking their cars and they won't get damaged. so I'm asking the council to have a look around the town again, we are encouraging off street car parking but provide proper facilities in the car park that they are safe to park in with the lights.''
