A Roscommon councillor has called for variable speed limits to safeguard children at schools along the N5. Fianna Fáil councillor Sean Moylan wants lower speeds enforced during drop off and collection times. He said the measure has been working successfully in other European countries for a number of years.
Cllr Moylan expressed concerns that speeds around schools will remain too high despite changes to national speed limits later this year. Planned changes currently include a reduction on national secondary roads from 100km/h to 80km/h with no change on national primary roads.
