A Roscommon councillor has expressed concern over the number of dentists not accepting medical cards.
The issue was raised at the most recent plenary meeting of Roscommon County Council
Holders of medical cards over the age of 16 can get free dental services through the Dental Treatment Service Scheme
However, Councillor Emer Kelly, says the number of dentists in the region accepting medical cards has significantly reduced, and action must be taken
"We need an urgent action on this. If you took the event referenced earlier where if there was an animal waiting to see a vet and there was a delay, you'd be concerned. This is human pain and anyone who has toothache knows how discomforting it is so we do need to take this seriously and we need to make sure people are able to access these services within an acceptable time frame"
