The ESB will be attempting to fix more of the faults today, but some customers in Boyle have been told they’ll have to wait until Wednesday night.

Over 7,400 homes and businesses in the Shannonside region are still without electricity – two days after they lost power due to Storm Darragh.

They include over 200 in Longford, over 4,000 in Roscommon, and almost 3,200 in Leitrim.

The ESB will be attempting to fix more of the faults today, but some customers in Boyle have been told they’ll have to wait until Wednesday night.

Leitrim councillor Maeve Reynolds lives in the Jamestown/Drumsna area – and she’s been without power since the early hours of Saturday morning.

Ballinamore councillor Gary Prior says there's a significant problem in his area.

The storm has also led to a shortage of water in a lot of the region, due to power cuts at water supplies.

It has forced several schools to close today, including five in Longford town – St Mel’s College, St Joseph’s National School, Gaelscoil Longfoirt, Meán Scoil Mhuire and Templemichael College.

Mohill Community College in Co Leitrim is also shut today.

Tarmonbarry councillor Tom Crosby believes those still without electricity should be compensated.
