A local Councillor has described the location of a speed van in north Roscommon as 'ludicrous'.
John Cummins says parking a detection vehicle outside Boyle Garda Station makes little sense and he's now hopeful the Chief Superintendent will review the matter.
The location of safety cameras is determined by the Gardai where in their opinion a significant number of collisions have occurred due to excessive speed.
However, the Fianna Fail representative claims the Shilling Hill area of Boyle reports few incidents and the van would be better placed at the Ard Carne turn-off along the N4.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Councillor Cummins acknowledged the importance and necessity of speed vehicles but believes more thought must be put into their locations.
"We have a speed van here in Boyle on a very regular basis. within the town environment and town urban area.
Everyone agrees that these speed vans are a necessity for traffic calming and traffic safety on the road.
Greater thought should be put into where they are located and they should be moved around on a very regular basis."
