A Roscommon councillor has called for the introduction of speed radar signs on all approach roads into Castlerea.
The motion was brought before the most recent meeting of the Roscommon Municipal District.
Councillor Anthony Waldron believes that vehicles speeding on the approach to the town is an issue which is a cause for concern.
In response, the district noted his concerns will be raised to Gardaí but signs would not have the desired effect of slowing cars down.
However, Councillor Waldron says that radar signs would act as a deterrent and he is confident that they will be erected.
"Those speed radar signs alert people to the speed they are doing and they slow down, most definitely, from everyone i've spoken to and this would be one step forward. It may not be the full answer and we still have to take other action to penalise people who are speeding. They are taking a look at it now and I'm confident that we will get them in eventually in Castlerea because of the speed of the cars and lorries which people have observed on the Knock road into Castlerea and other approach roads as well".
