A Roscommon Councillor is hopeful planning permission will be secured for a new 50 bed care unit in the town by the end of the year.
A decision on the development at the Sacred Heart Hospital was due on Monday last however Roscommon county planners have requested further information on the application.
Concerns were raised over the timeline of the project earlier this month due to a potential impact on some habitats, including bats.
However, following a meeting of the regional health forum this week Councillor Tony Ward feels assured the HSE is committed to the project and he expects with the submission of the required information a planning decision can be made in December of this year.
It would be hoped that if a grant of planning permission is achieved in late 2022 or early next year construction works would commence on site in late 2023.
Speaking to Shannonside FM Tony Ward commented;
''Further information has been submitted and I'd be very hopeful that planning permission would granted by the end of this year, in the next month and speaking to members of management of the HSE, I would be very happy with the information that I got and the reassurance that I got from the HSE on the project.''
