A local Councillor has confirmed he will not be running in the General Election following growing speculation in recent weeks.
Independent Councillor Anthony Waldron had been tipped to run the Roscommon-Galway constituency but has ruled himself out this evening.
The Roscommon Councillor said he had been ill in recent weeks and this would hamper his efforts to canvass the constituency.
He said, however, he would continue in his efforts to raise important issues such as the recent recent spike in rural crime.
