A local councillor described the decision to change the location of a post-office in Roscommon as 'devastating'. An Post has confirmed that the postal service in Roscommon town is set to move away from its current location in the Square. It was announced in January that Roscommon Post Office would become a contractor-run service.
Following backlash from local politicians and the public, An Post said they would seek to appoint a Postmaster to take over the running of the service in its current premises. Roscommon councillor Marty McDermott said that this decision will create a setback for local businesses:
