A Roscommon councillor says the battle may be over, but the war still goes on, to try to help the people around Lough Funshinagh.
Councillor Laurence Fallon was speaking as Roscommon County Council agreed in the High Court to stop all flood relief works at Lough Funshinagh following a successful challenge by an environmental group.
The Independent councillor says he believes the difference between Irish and European law is leading to uncertainty and confusion on the issue.
He says the situation will continue until such times as legislation is rewritten to take EU rules into account.
Meanwhile, a statement from Roscommon council says it had left 'no stone unturned' in trying to find a mechanism to deliver relief that would allow families stay in their homes.
The local authority has described it as a sad day for the Lough Funshinagh community, and for others who may find themselves in similar circumstances.
