Councillors are expressing their frustration over the stopping of all works at Lough Funshinagh in Roscommon.
At a meeting of the local authority yesterday, Chief Executive Eugene Cummins slammed the Friends of the Irish Environment for scuppering plans to reduce the level of water in the infamous Turlough.
Elected representatives praised Mr Cummins and his fellow council officials for their work throughout the legal proceedings and branded the current situation as devastating.
Councillors voted to send a letter to the Environment Minister Eamon Ryan, elected Dail members and MEPS over the issue, While Councillor Tom Crosby asked that RTE Investigates be contacted to conduct an inquiry.
Councillor Lawrence Fallon called for a meeting with National Parks and wildlife to account for their alleged failure to protect the environment around the Lough.
The Independent councillor is also seeking clarity from European Parliament Members on how a designated special area of conservation can be reversed as he believes both flora and fauna are now dead.
A proposal from Councillor John Keogh was also backed to write to the department of housing, local government and the OPW that would ensure the necessary schemes would be put in place for those who wish to re-locate from the area.
