Councillors in Roscommon are calling for a meeting with the Minister for Justice following a spate of recent burglaries in the county. Fianna Fáil Cllr Sean Moylan brought forward a motion at this week's council meeting to try and tackle the issue. Meanwhile, Cllr Paschal Fitzmaurice suggested that the council arrange a meeting with Minister Helen McEntee which was unanimously supported.
It was revealed at the meeting that the amount of Gardaí stationed in the Castlerea/Boyle district has decreased by 50% since 2012. Cllr Moylan believes there needs to be serious changes to the current policing model in the county:
