The PRO of Roscommon County Board says they hope to be able to return a very special medal to its owner in a short time.
His comments come following the discovery of a World War 1 medal at Dr Hyde Park following the Roscommon-Mayo match on last Sunday.
John O'Connor says the medal was handed over to a steward for safe keeping and they would like to see it reunited with its owner.
Speaking on the Let's Talk show today the PRO said they'd done a little homework on the medal and found that it is related to a specific period of time and place during the 1st World War.
"After doing a bit of research it's a 1914 star and it's colloquially known as the "Mons Star". What it is is a British WW1 campaign medal for service in France or Belgium from a very specific time period between the 5th of August and the 22nd of November 1914. There is an inscription on the back but we're not giving the name of the person, we have a surname but we won't be giving that out, we'll use that as verification if someone comes onto us".
