The government cannot continue to stand by and allow out of control indiscriminate illegal dumping continue.
Roscommon Independent Councillor Tom Crobsy says that for over 30 years he has sought change to the current penalty system to include much stricter penalties, including naming and shaming of offenders.
In the last 12 months, Roscommon County Council has received 7,303 euro in penalties and fines, while it has cost over 553,678 to cleaning up towns, villages and the countryside - this represents just over 1 per cent of monies collected.
