Roscommon County Council is on course, by the end of this year, to have
invested up on 30 million euro into improving the county's towns and villages
over the last three years.
In a presentation to members of the local authority, Director of Services
for Special Projects and Regeneration Majella Hunt said that at the end of
2019, the county had been successful in procuring 23 million euro of State
aid for improvement projects, with a further 5 million euro in match funding
coming from the council itself.
And if successful at the end of this year, with over 100 live projects on
the go, that number would climb to 30 million euro overall.
Members paid tribute to the local communities and the council team for their
tireless efforts on accessing funding, with Fianna Fail councillor Pascal
Fitzmaurice hitting out at critics of the local authority's decision a few
years ago to raise the Local Property Tax saying the move created a pool of
potential match funding.
Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council Laurence Fallon says it's very
