A Roscommon doctor is advising people to take whatever vaccine they can get in order to protect themselves from Covid-19.
Dr Greg Kelly says he has had to reassure patients that the Astra Zeneca vaccine is safe, after the inoculation programme was stalled earlier this month due to concerns over clotting in a small number of patients.
He feels that people should take the first vaccine they can get in order to help stop the spread, and people need to weigh up the risk of taking a vaccine with a small number of complications compared to having to live with a very serious illness such as Coronavirus.
The Castlerea-based medic says it should be a simple decision for most people:
Latest trials of the AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccine have found it to be 79 percent effective, and with no reported safety concerns.
32-thousand volunteers took part in the USA, Peru and Chile. It was found to be 100 percent effective at preventing severe or critical cases of the virus. The data could now lead to it being authorised in the US.
