A Roscommon domestic violence service has welcomed a 10 year jail term for a man convicted of coercive control of his partner.

Daniel Kane, of Scariff House, Waterville Terrace, Blanchardstown, Dublin, became the first person to be convicted by a jury of coercive control after a court heard he inflicted almost two years of physical and emotional abuse on his vulnerable ex-girlfriend

Gardai thanked the woman for coming forward - and it's hoped the case will provide strength for people to come forward to escape domestic violence situations:
