Plans to develop a significant shared education campus in Roscommon town have gotten the go ahead from the Department of Education.
The campus, once completed, will support over 600 hundred national and secondary students from across the region.
The new developement will be based at the current site of the Roscommon Community College on St Theresa's road in the town.
The project will see the construction of a new 8 classroom Primary school, with a special education needs base for Gaelscoil de Hide.
Also included in the plans is a fire safety upgrade and extension of the existing Roscommon Community College, along with the provision of two SEN units.
The shared education campus is to be delivered as part of the Governments Large Scale Capital Programme.
Local Senator Eugene Murphy says the announcement is part of the future proofing of education in the region.
