Farmers from across the Shannonside Region are being invited to a special social farming event in Roscommon next week.
A Roscommon family farm is hosting the open day on Wednesday the 7th of September to highlight what social farming is and how it can help people.
The Keaveney's farm located close to Ballinlough welcomes service users from the Brothers of Charity, in Castlerea every Monday on to their farm.
Shane Keaveney says the initiative offers people who are socially, physically, mentally, or intellectually disadvantaged the opportunity to spend time on a family farm.
His wife Grainne Keaveney says the open day is aimed at getting other farms to participate in social farming.
The open day is organised by Social Farming Ireland and we were approached by Deirdre Fahy who is the Regional Development Officer for this area to see would we be willing to open our farm for the day, and we were only delighted because Shane would have been to other open days and he sees the benefit of it.
Some people who are already participating in Social Farming will be here, also maybe people who are thinking of becoming involved in it, and it gives them an idea of what's involved and they can get advice on the day.
