Roscommon Fianna Fail Senator Eugene Murphy says he won't be accepting a forthcoming pay rise, as he believes it isn't appropriate at a time when people are out of work due to Covid and the country is struggling.
The Fianna Fail politician intends giving the money to a charity instead in a similar arrangement to when he rejected two pay rises during his term in the Dail.
Senator Murphy says people in the public service generally should certainly take the increase which will bring their wages back into line, but he says Oireachtas members should be seen to take some leadership at this time.
