Roscommon Galway Deputy Claire Kerrane says she remains extremely concerned about the absence of a fire service for the Castlerea area.
In a letter sent to the Acting Chief Executive of Roscommon Council, the Sinn Fein TD says it's obvious that the second largest and growing town in the county needs a service of its own and shouldn't have to rely on stations in other towns to respond to emergencies.
In her letter Deputy Kerrane says the conflicting reasons of staffing issues and then an independent review for closing the station are concerning.
She says she's not happy with the way the review was carried out and the territory that was taken into consideration for the study.
"Particularly around the fire ground, which was limited, the fire ground was typically a lot greater than what the report looked at. The report looked at a fire ground which was limited within the speed signs of Castlerea. Of course, we all know the fire service dealt with much greater than that. For example most of the prison and the forestry is outside that speed limit sign, yet if there was a fire there tomorrow, the fire station is a few metres away. That's the station that would have dealt with it.".
