A Roscommon Galway TD says it is beyond belief that an environmental group could be contemplating approaching the courts to halt works that are aimed at restoring the habitats of a south Roscommon turlough.
Excessive flooding in 2015 at Lough Funshinagh and in subsequent years has led to destruction farmlands, habitats, roads and houses in the area, with many species of wildlife not returning.
Friends of the Irish Environment are likely to seek a high court injunction against the local authority to prevent the construction of an overflow pipe to bring excessive flood water to a nearby river.
