A Roscommon garda says resources and morale are being wasted on paperwork.
Sergeant Kevin Sexton's comment comes as the Annual Conference of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors continues in Galway today.
A number of motions are coming before delegates including a call for an exit strategy to try to stem the unprecedented volume of gardaí leaving the force.
109 gardaí resigned last year - an increase of 345 per cent on 2016.
Sergeant Sexton says the administrative burden means that gardaí are not out on the beat enough;
'At present there is an unpredicted volume of Gardaí leaving and it may be mainly with the workload, they job has changed as it has become office based sitting behind a computer, inputting stats instead of being amongst the community.'
