Gardai in Roscommon conducted over 1,000 special patrols to monitor compliance with Covid 19 regulations in January.

Today’s meeting of the Joint Policing Committee has heard that this is in addition to the 358 checkpoints on roads in the county.

Chief Superintendent Tony Healy has outlined that as part of the An Garda Siochana's role in ensuring compliance with Covid 19 regulations, 1058 patrols were conducted in different areas across the county.

Officers have inspected 380 licenced premises in the month, and 270 visits have been made to retailers.

Working with the local authorities’ Community Forum, gardai have also assisted almost 150 older and vulnerable people in the county.

Superintendent Healy says they have been and are continuing to work closely with operators of meat plants in the county.

He says that while there has been low fall off in terms of Garda personnel in relation to Covid 19, and that services have not been affected.
