Gardai in Castlerea are urging people to be on their guard for online fraud.
Garda Superintendent Tom Colsch says as with many other Garda districts around the county they've experienced a major increase in such fraud so far this year.
There's been an increase of over 300% in online fraud crimes reported in the Castlerea district so far this year by people who've been tricked into giving access to their bank accounts.
Superintendent Colsch says criminals use a wide range of false texts, e-mails and phone calls to try to gain access to peoples accounts, and people should remember that banks do not, and will not send emails asking customers to release security passwords and codes.
