Local Gardai are asking the public to not give personal information over the phone.
The message comes from Inspector David Cryan following a joint anti-fraud initiative between Roscommon County Council and the Department of Justice.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about fraudsters who may pressure vulnerable people to transfer funds to an unknown account.
He encourages people to hang up if they answer a call and suspect it is a fraudster on the line.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Inspector Cryan says the public need to be aware about scam calls and emails.
''If someone cannot prove who they are, or if someone requests your bank account information or other personal information and contacting you several times, these should be all red flags. It's a good indication they are up to no good and this also applies to texts and emails, don't give nay information or bank details over the phone.''
