Gardaí in Roscommon are reminding people of the importance of using farm machinery in a safe and responsible way.
The reminder comes after the Roscommon Roads Policing Unit stopped a tractor in Elphin Yesterday following a call from a member of the public.
On stopping the vehicle, Gardaí found the driver to be 15 years old, meaning he lacked a license to operate the tractor in public.
Children over 14 can drive a tractor on a farm if specific criteria has been met, but are required to hold a category W licence to drive on a public road.
On checking the tractor, Gardaí also discovered that it was not insured and did not have any tax.
